Basic Techniques and Touch
Swedish massage uses a sequence of strokes—percussion, kneading, vibration, tapping and rolling—delivered with massage oil or lotion to protect the skin and reduce friction. Each action moves along soft tissue with different rhythm and pressure, producing sensations from gentle gliding to more focused stimulation. Therapists select and layer these techniques to create a consistent session flow.
Different strokes produce different sensations and trade-offs: long gliding strokes calm and integrate the session, while percussion and tapping feel more invigorating. The therapist selects stroke types, speed, and pressure to match your goals and tolerance. Because oil reduces friction, therapists can deliver smooth transitions; if you have skin sensitivities, tell us so we can adjust products or pressure.
What Happens During Session
Your 60-minute Swedish Massage session begins with a brief intake where the therapist asks about comfort, tension areas, and sensitivities. You remain draped for privacy while oil is applied to reduce friction. The $120 fee covers the full 60 minutes of hands-on work; therapists check pressure frequently and adjust strokes for comfort.
Scheduling and timing often reflect New Rochelle’s commuter patterns and local life. Many clients book after-work slots because of easy Metro-North and I-95 access, while weekend visitors combine treatments with outings to Glen Island Park or New Roc City. We serve nearby communities including Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Pelham, Mount Vernon, Yonkers, and Scarsdale from our Downtown New Rochelle location.
Personalizing Your Session
Communication shapes how a therapist uses percussion, kneading, vibration, tapping and rolling. Tell the therapist about preferred pressure, areas you want addressed, or any recent activities that affect comfort. Trade-offs matter: spending more time on one area reduces time available elsewhere during a 60-minute session, so priorities guide which techniques receive emphasis.
Local climate and lifestyle also influence choices: New Rochelle’s four-season coastal weather and active routines mean tissue sensitivity and preferences can change through the year. Commuters coming off Metro-North may request steady, restorative strokes after travel, while weekend visitors who were outdoors might prefer gentler glide and increased attention to sun-exposed or sensitive skin areas.
